Simone Davis was born and raised in Oakland, California. She completed her BFA at UCLA, and now lives with her husband and three daughters in San Diego. Simone has always produced large and colorful paintings in oil and acrylic, but her favorite is black and white photography.
She takes photographs almost every day, mostly focusing her lens on the faces of people she randomly meets. Simone believes that our human faces are not just windows into our souls, but they embody our personal histories and indeed the entire history of human kind.
Her race and art don't define her, Simone says, but her life experiences do. Simone's father's father was African American, her father's mother is Mexican American, and her mother was born in Viet Nam. Simone admits that she relishes in the richness of all the family traditions. She says that the holidays are particularly lovely, when all the music, stories, and foods are gathered together in her home.
