John Petty has been a Lutheran pastor for over twenty years. He is a graduate of Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, and is currently pastor of All Saints Lutheran Church in Aurora, Colorado. For theological insiders, he describes his theology as "neo-orthodox trinitarian theology of the cross, with a Christus Victor view of atonement theory."
John has been active in Habitat for Humanity for over twenty years. He was Area Director for Church Relations with Habitat International from 1995-2001 and was involved in many Habitat projects domestically and internationally. Currently, he's Ecumenical Representative for the Rocky Mountain Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and chair of the Unity Commission of the Colorado Council of Churches.
John has been active in politics since the Robert Kennedy campaign of 1968. He's been a precinct committeeman for the Democratic party for over 37 years, in three states, and has made just about "all the dang phone calls" he's ever going to make. When he was a resident of Kansas, he served on the City Commission of Hays, still one of his favorite places on earth, in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. He says that everything he knows about politics, he learned from John T. Bird. John served as Co-Chair of the 2008 Hillary Clinton campaign in Arapahoe County, Colorado, and was a delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Currently, he's a member of the Democratic State Committee of Colorado.
