Dawne Leiker grew up in St. Francis, Kansas, and started Fort Hays State University as a piano performance major. Soon after, she made the switch and changed her major to political science. After graduation, Dawne married Glenn Leiker and moved to Colorado. Working as a bartender in Greeley and Denver, she put her political science education to frequent use in bar-room political debates.
Dawne and her husband moved back to Hays, Kansas to raise their kids. She's the mother of three children, Whitney, Lindsey, and Colton, and grandmother to Evin and Linus.
While raising her children, Dawne spent eighteen years selling advertising for The Hays Daily News. Recently, she completed a Masters in Liberal Studies with a concentration in public relations and journalism. Dawne works at Fort Hays State University in the Leadership Studies Dept. and the Center for Civic Leadership as a senior administrative assistant.
Dawne's favorite things include yoga, music, and reading. She also writes at Kansas Free Press. We are proud to report that she won a first place award from the Kansas Professional Communicators Association for piece she published at Everyday Citizen, titled Antidote to cynicism.
We're truly honored that Dawne writes with us here.
