Having purposely kept an eye off the political scene recently I have found myself taking a much larger interest in issues more close to home and those that are family related. So it was with "curiosity" only that I too took notice of the FLDS issue in Eldorado Texas this past two weeks. Not being a person of any religious conviction I joked about the hair styles of the women of the sect.

Well I hear someone's had an extra marital affair. I know it wasn't me. It wasn't my wife, was it? Oh thank god! That's such a relief because for a second there I thought that it may have something to do with me or my family or perhaps that it might concern me in any way what so ever!

Concerning this ill-fated war, it seems Mr. Dee-Side-Errr has announced a new position at the Pentagon. The New "War Czar" is Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute. You can read about it here.

This is nothing to get excited about. I assure you the only purpose for this new position is to have someone to fire shortly after General Pace reports back on Iraq in September. They'll want to say something like "we're starting off with a fresh new plan with new leadership and new energy"..... or some thought up phrase like that.

"Magnificent," cried the ministers, but they could see nothing at all. Indeed there was nothing to be seen...." (The Emperor's New Clothes by Hans Christian Anderson)

I really had wanted to wait a bit longer before I espoused more rhetoric concerning the powers that be however with the "Gonzo/Ashcroft Bed Side" story that broke last week, my own "Flabergastification" (my new word I just made up, ya like it?) demanded that I type something if only to prove to my self I wasn't dreaming.

You've heard the phrase "I laughed so hard it brought me to tears." The complete opposite can be said about this administration. Sadly enough "I cried so hard I was laughing" can be uttered by any soul who truly understands the pathetic nature of the leadership the U.S. has in the executive branch at this point in history.

Yes, I've been quiet for a while. Some of you may have been wondering "what happened to Bill"? Well to be quite frank I have been suffering from writers block - and I've been feeling a sense of fear. Fear of what? Fear of offending someone. Fear of upsetting the apple cart.

Democratic National Convention

Everyday Citizen has been selected as one of only 55 blogs nationwide to be "embedded" with convention delegates at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, August 25th to 29th. Plus, Everyday Citizen is among only 120 total blog sites credentialed in the nation.

Also thanks to wonderful hosts in Denver like ProgressNow and other orgs, many of our EC authors are looking forward to some great networking with other activists and grassroots organizers in the Big Tent in Denver. The Big Tent is a precious resource for our budget conscious and travel weary activists!

Our group of Everyday Citizen authors will be blogging from the Big Tent, blogging from the caucuses, and enjoying some unprecedented and unfettered access to the delegate floor, above and beyond the privileges provided to traditional media. We hope you stay tuned right here for your ongoing, close-up and ringside blog coverage of this historic convention!
