"Surrounded by corn and soybean farms — including one owned by the local Republican congressman, Representative Stephen Fincher — Dyersburg, about 75 miles north of Memphis, provides an eye-opening view into Washington’s food stamp debate. Mr. Fincher, who was elected in 2010 on a Tea Party wave and collected nearly $3.5 million in farm subsidies from the government from 1999 to 2012, recently voted for a farm bill that omitted food stamps."
I'm a farmer but I don't think 'mega size' farmers need unlimited subsidies so they can out bid their neighbor for cash rent or buy more land.
The good Christian Representative quoted the Bible "if ya don't work ya don't eat". Mr. Finch is unaware that most food stamp recipients work more hours on the job than he does in the congressional sessions. As for his farming operation, I doubt he spends very many hours toiling away to collect his millions. I wonder how many of the laborers on his farm scramble every week to make ends meet?
