Go back and read, Let's Get the Credit Downgrade Story Right. Peter Herbert did a good job of presenting some interesting observations on where he thought credit should be assessed.
We have a good mix of regular writers and commentaries. Without question, most of us lean to the liberal or progressive side of politics. But, we have a few in the comment area that honestly challenge and offer constructive conservative opinions.
We had one commentary to Peter's and some of the others' comments, who thought it was absolutely the Democrats and Barack Obama that were responsible for the downgrade. The commenter sarcastically pointed out his amazement that we all could have missed what was so obvious to him.
We have had Republican Administrations for 48 of the last 91 years. Democrats have held the office 43 years. We had 12 years with Repubs in the administrative office preceding the Great Depression of the 1930s. We then had 20 years running with Dems in charge. But, the Repubs have held the office 36 years to the Dems 23 years since Eisenhower was elected.
Somehow, it is inconceivable to our friend that the Repubs have contributed any negative impact on our economy. I guess he doesn’t know, Reagan and Bush II instituted huge income tax reductions and presided over obscene deficit spending, during their administrations.
Bush II inherited a positive cash flow (??) from the Clinton era. Obama inherited a sick economy and huge deficit era from Bush. We had seen the Corporations accelerate their exodus from stateside to offshore and foreign locations. Jobs disappeared, in spite of the tax cuts that are supposed to create jobs.
We have seen a steady concentration of the Nation’s wealth into the hands of fewer and fewer people. We have seen a greater and greater percentage of the population fall into poverty. This hasn’t just happened since Barack Obama became President. And, his defeat in the 2012 election isn’t going to automatically reverse those trends.
No single event, person, or Administration is solely responsible for the National debt or the Nation’s economic problems. Business and environmental regulations are not where the problem is. Deregulating and shrinking the government won’t solve all our problems. Neither pure unregulated capitalism nor irresponsible communal socialism is the answer.
I don’t have a pat answer, except that each one of us needs to look at ourselves and ask what we can do to make the world a more enjoyable place, not just for me or my friends but for all mankind.

Ken--I have read research showing that people don't care about facts, especially when the facts go against what they believe to be true. That's the case for everyone, no matter what side of the political divide they are on. I try to get the facts and in the past few years, I've avoided watching or reading mainstream media because in the MSM, including FAUX News, facts are always trumped by sensationalism or the political point of view of the medium. Research has also shown that Democratic presidents and politicians generally get more negative coverage than Republican presidents and politicians. When Nancy Pelosi was speaker of the House, for example, the media reported mostly negative news about her and very little positive. John Boehner is another story altogether. When the Republicans took the House, his picture was on the cover of Time or Newsweek, I can't remember which. Pelosi, the first woman speaker in history, was never given that kind of coverage.
I agree that Peter Herbert's analysis is excellent. I also agree that we each need to take responsibility for being informed.

Right on, Ken and Diane, and thank you! This all rings true and it is depressing. I wish I knew what to do about it.
You're both inspirational, by the way. I admire both of your many outstanding blogs and comments on this site. Angelo's too -- he is humane, patient, gifted, studious, reflective. Great people here; but very few of them/us are still involved.
