Though very much an anomaly, our Everyday Citizen database was "offline" due to a weird and unrepeatable technical snafu for almost 3 weeks! We are happy to say that it's now completely fixed. We thank all of you for your patience.
Readership continues to grow at this site. Just in the last month, we had 704,238 hits (visits) - even though much of the that time, our writers were unable to post new content due to the extremely rare technical difficulties! In a normal, unfettered month, we have over 900,000 and during one recent month we even crested the million hit mark. These are, without a doubt, very respectable stats for a website of this kind. I believe it is because Everyday Citizen has high quality writers and thoughtful commenters.
And, the good news abounds! This widely acclaimed excellent citizen journalism site, founded in 1997, is fully re-tweaked, re-wired and very sturdy. Good to go for years to come. Writers can rest assured that their archives are working perfectly and are well protected with multiple backups. Our dedicated readers can now return frequently to find new content. New visitors can learn more by reading about our Directory of Writers, our Table of Contents and More About Us.
Everyday Citizen writers are eager to write and, most importantly, our Everyday Citizen readers are eager to read and respond. Welcome back, everybody!

Thanks Pam, for fixing the technical problems in the site. I was worried that the site was down permanently. I would've missed reading it.

Don't worry Angelo! This site was built to be a permanent, longterm source of progressive writing. I predict it will outlast us both! Don't worry! And, thanks for waiting out the outage. In coming months, we will do a "software upgrade" that may require a few days offline but you'll get adequate warning before it occurs and it will be very brief. Keep writing!

Thank you, Pam.
We have front page status with editorial content. We have over 50 registered writers, but only seem to be getting copy from less than a dozen. Come on folks, let us hear from you. Don't worry about the critics and those who post comments in disagreement. This is one of the cleanest and most courteous sites I've found.
Once in awhile we all get a little cranky and sharp in our debate. But, honest debate has to have opposing views and I, for one, welcome those comments from the opposition, especially in a venue that allows direct and immediate interaction.
If there is something I'd like to add, it would be a feature that would notify me of the date for the last comment added, before I have to open it to see if I've missed one. Pam? is that possible?

Ken, the version of software we're using doesn't allow you to have those notifications - but - all things are possible in the future as we continue to tweak and upgrade. In the next 6 months, we'll do a major upgrade and add some functionality. So, keep the ideas coming!

Pam--For some reason, I'm extremely busy right now, but I have plans to write something soon. I'm glad Everyday Citizen is back up, partly because I really enjoy reading what other people write, Angelo and Ken are among my favorites.
Critics? I've been dealing with critics ever since I was the only sixth grader in my class who supported an Adlai Stevenson when he was running against Ike. :-)
Maybe by the end of the week I'll be able to pound a couple of things out.

I think this web site prefers to live in a bubble. If comments from the other side of the isle weren’t so quick to be deleted, I’m sure there would be more readership and writing.
