Body Image: Jessica Simpson Radiates Natural Beauty

By Tatiana McKinney
April 8, 2010

According to Salon.com, "Jessica Simpson bares it all in the May cover of Marie Claire. She's pictured with no makeup, no airbrushing -- it's just bare-faced beauty. The magazine cover is part of a promotional push for the singer's VH1 reality show, "The Price of Beauty," an exploration of global beauty standards, and the upcoming launch of her "A Beautiful Me" campaign for Operation Smile."

Wow! For the past year Jessica has been scrutinized and trashed in the tabloids for putting on weight and she decided to embrace her beauty and believe in herself and the new show and campaign is proof of her progress.

She explains the photo shoot as the natural result of not having "anything to prove anymore." Being trashed by the tabloids for being "fat" after a weight gain of a couple of pounds could certainly make you feel that way.

My Thoughts..
Many blog sites and television shows are criticizing the cover because even without the airbrushing and makeup Jessica is flawlessly beautiful. Even without the extra tactics for covershoots and magazines jessica is beautiful and she has proven that time and time again. Even with great self-esteem booster from the cover, Jessica still defies an average girls reality.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks for the blog Tatiana. I know that one of the things women are struggling against is an unrealistic image of feminine beauty based on a certain look and weight. I had just watched a documentary on Karen Carpenter when I read about criticism over Jessica Simpson's weight and I'm glad she's taking a stand against that type of stuff.
