Rosmah: 'The Women's Champion'

By Tatiana McKinney
December 22, 2009

According to the Malaysian Mirror,

Rosmah Mansoris ready to carry the role of ‘the women’s champion’ to fight for the rights of women and children across the nation. She will not hesitate to lend a helping hand in ensuring the welfare of the women and children are well taken care of, she told reporters here Tuesday.
This is truly exciting...

Rosmah, wife of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, was speaking at a joint press conference with Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

“I will not say ‘no’ if Shahrizat appoints me the ‘champion’ of women’s cause and I think my husband will agree on that,” said Rosmah, who had just returned from Copenhagen, Denmark where Najib had attended the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference.
Great!

This is such great news for women everywhere. Rosmah plans to promote Malaysia as a "women-friendly country" wherever she goes.

“We are very fortunate to be in a country where policies regarding women’s well-being are in the forefront.

“Women here are also encouraged to pursue careers, education and be whatever they want to become.

“I can say that there are not many governments in the world that had been sensitive to the people, especially to women’s needs.”

Well, this is a great time for the country and I hope that Rosmah receives support from her counterparts and people that live in her community as well

"I just want to see Malaysians, especially women, being successful and achieving whatever they want and to make a mark in the world," she said.

My Thoughts...

This is such a great day for women's rights everywhere. A Country that usually does not honor women is taking a step up to make sure their voices are heard and they are in the forefront for change. US I think it's time we take some of the Malaysian examples and make sure we are working on equality in our country as well. I'm not saying that we have to change today, but tomorrow is another day.

Great post, Tatianna. I'm glad there are women like Rosmah Mansor fighting for women's rights in Malaysia and elsewhere. In countried like Iran and Afganistan, women's rights activists must be especially courageous to risk their standing and sometimes even their lives.
