PETA Crosses the Line: Nudity, Puppies and the Catholic Church

By Tatiana McKinney
December 4, 2009

According to Salon.com, "Those wacky crackpots at PETA have really outdone themselves this time – with an "Always adopt. Never buy." campaign that features "Dancing with the Stars" superfox Joanna Krupa as an animal-friendly "angel" clad only in wings, halo – and a strategically placed cross. Also, she's floating in what appears to be a church."

Ummmm....

As we all know, PETA tends to go overboard with there ads. But this time, The Catholic Church is outraged.

According to Salon.com, "As soon as the ad hit, the equally reliable in their habits Catholic League immediately jumped on the hoopla. Chief spokesblusterer Bill Donohue announced that

"Pet stores don't rip off Christian iconography and engage in cheap irreligious claims."

WOW!

Krupa promptly fired back, "As a practicing Catholic, I am shocked that the Catholic League is speaking out against my PETA ads." Yes, posing naked with the central symbol of Christianity over your crotch. Who could have imagined what would happen next?"

Oh MY!

Because the picture is inappropriate and not suitable for some audiences on this website, I've decided to just link to the picture.

Check out the photo here.

My Thoughts...

Does this disrespect religion? Is this helping the cause of PETA an anyway? What do you think this says to young women?

The poster may be disrespectful to the views of some religious people but it is not disrespectful of Christianity, Catholic or otherwise. There is nothing in the bible that supports the body shame promoted so vigorously, and so misguidedly, by some people.

I wonder who the poster is inappropriate for? Certainly not children, censoring the human body does nothing but harm to them. Compare teenage pregnancy rates, abortion rates, or any other related indicator for the USA with Denmark and then think long and hard about the attitudes which result in such an enormous difference. How about Christians? There are a lot of Christian naturists and as pointed out above, the bible has no problem with nudity. Who then?
