According to The Denver Post, "In the school library Monday, Faviola and nearly two dozen of her classmates got words of encouragement from Rep. Betsy Markey, D-Fort Collins, and "Girlfriends" actress Tracee Ellis Ross. They told the group of student leaders to focus on what's ahead of them and not get discouraged by what's behind."
Faviola will be the first in her family to attend college, but she worries that a difficult past could block her way.
"I've started to succeed," Faviola, 17, said. "They helped me to know you have to push yourself first. They had a lot of experience that I could relate to."
She is one of seven children with a single mother. She is now part of the soccer team and the Student Council, but it wasn't long ago before she was a slacker.
According to the Denver Post, "Markey told students how hard it was when she was fired from her first job as a typist in college."
"You just have to dig down deep and realize you have a lot of self worth inside you," Markey said.

My Thoughts....
It is always great to see celebrities and politicians encouraging students to succeed. Many students grow up in different situations, and it's never too late or early to let students know," It's not how you start, but how you finish!"
What are your thoughts?

Thank you so much for blogging about this article in the Denver Post. I agree that individuals (both men and women) in the public eye should use their influence for the betterment of their communities. Young people are already looking up to celebrities ... why not give them something positive to live up to? I am also happy to see WOMEN serving as role models for their younger counterparts. I often wish I could have participated in a mentoring program in high school.
