Healthy Citizens and Healthy Economy Rely on Real Reform

By Denise Cassells
November 8, 2009

On Saturday, November 7, a majority of the House of Representatives made history by passing H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act.

Representatives who voted for H.B. 3962 deserve many thanks for abandoning extreme pressure from the insurance industry and standing up for citizens who do not wish to witness large corporate takeover in America.

By voting yes, our representatives took control of the helm to provide secure and reliable coverage for those with insurance, expand coverage for those who do not have insurance, lower costs for families and businesses, and took a major step in reducing the deficit.

After nearly a century of attempts, people in this country stood for health care reform by making their voices heard and electing a President, a majority in both the house and senate who would not fail to fulfill a basic human right for all Americans.

Medicare has served our seniors for decades and contrary to some beliefs, under new reform our seniors will continue to enjoy those benefits. Americans will no longer have to wait until they literally are in the last years of their lives to receive the health care all should be entitled.

This bill has a ways to go - American people throughout history have stood up for what is right. Our elected officials must reform large money institutes and vote for the American people who have contributed sweat, blood, and tears to prop up those same companies who have disregarded for too long those workers and consumers.

Finish the work - we have taken one giant leap, and now Americans are eager, and counting on our elected officials to complete this race to save lives.

Cross the finish line. Give us the security of knowing we have our government to thank for doing what is truly best for all Americans.
