Let's Support Comprehensive Sex Education!

By Tatiana McKinney
October 27, 2009

Hello Everyday Citizens! Join Choice USA, SYRF, SIECUS, Advocates for Youth, and Catholics for Choice in their National Call-In Day next Wednesday, October 28th.

If you've been watching television or surfing the net lately you've noticed a lot of the content is based on the Health Care Reform Debate. Both sides lashing out and working towards compromise.

The one thing that has been hush-hush, with little to no news coverage is the Hatch Amendment, which would have a serious impact on sex education in the classrooms. Voted into the Senate Finance Committee's version of healthcare reform 12-11,

the Hatch Amendment lays out a $50 million funding plan to get failed abstinence-only programs back into our classrooms.

Wow! Right?

And we do not want to spend our money on programs that do not work. We want to fund programs that teach young adults how to approach relationships, how to protect themselves against STDs/HIV, and how to make the decision about sex, when it is right for them.

Abstinence-only programs don't work. President Obama has called for the end of them in his budget and Members of Congress in the House and Senate have held firm by letting ab-only funding streams expire. Let's make sure 12 Senators don't successfully get bad sex education back into our classrooms!

So are you hyped to learn how you can help?

Call 1-888-423-5983 to reach your Senators’ office.

Check out our toolkit for details on how to organize a Call-In Day next week on your campus or in your community. Read up for tips on planning the events, what to say when you make your call, and even Tweeting points to push key Senators on Twitter to strike down the Hatch Amendment.

Join thousands of young people across the country demanding the era of abstinence-only education is done for good!

See you on the phones in a week,
Choice USA

Choice USA, 1317 F Street NW, Suite 501, Washington, DC 20004

So will you call? Will you make sure Ab-Only Programs do not get re-instated?

TWITTER! Facebook! Linked-IN! Use Social Media to get the word out! I will def be making calls that day to insure we do not have to deal with Ab-Only Programs that do not Work!

Let's Go People!!!!!!
