Insurance Industry Makes the Case for the Public Option

By Bruce Fealk
October 13, 2009

I don't think they meant to do it, but the recently released report from AHIP, America's Health Insurance Plans, really did the insurance industry more harm than good.

Until recently the health insurance industry made it look like they were going to play nice on health care reform. They were pretty much getting their way with the Senate Finance Committee. The public opinion started to shift away from the insurance industry. The health insurance came out and said, if health insurance reform passes, we're going to have to raise rates. Thank you so much. This admission pretty much made the best case ever for the public option.

And then today, Senator Snow melted and announced she is going to be voting for the bill that comes out of the Senate Finance Committee. There's still a long way to go, but things are looking up a little today for real health care reform.
