Special Message Just for Kansans and Oklahomans

By Pamela Jean
July 9, 2009

If you look over on the right sidebar on the front page of our site, you will see that an organization named Democracy for America (DFA) is sponsoring scholarships to the Netroots Nation conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, coming up in August. I have been honored to receive one of those scholarships to go to Pittsburgh (thanks to those who took the time to vote from me!).

My special message to you today is about a different opportunity offered by that same organization. If you live in Kansas or Oklahoma (or Missouri or Arkansas), you might be happy to know that this weekend (July 11 & 12), DFA is offering a 2-day Campaign Training in Wichita, Kansas. The DFA Campaign Academy mission is to focus, network, and train grassroots activists in the skills and strategies to manage successful political campaigns. The Campaign Academy weekend involves 16 hours of interactive workshops that bring hundreds of local activists, campaign staff and candidates together for 2 full days of intensive campaign training.

Who is DFA? It is one of the nation's largest progressive political action communities. With over one million members nationwide, DFA is a grassroots powerhouse working to change our country from the bottom-up. They provide campaign training, organizing resources, and media exposure so DFA members have the power to support progressive issues and candidates up and down the ballot. It's most substantial contribution to the progressive movement is its dedication to training. I'm told that there are slots still available for this weekend in Wichita...

Join us this weekend in Wichita! You can register here or check out the agenda and training topics here for this coming weekend in Wichita.

Here's more about this local event:

Experienced campaign professionals lead sessions in voter contact, fundraising, communications, on-line organizing and much more to empower progressive activists.... Attendees also meet with dozens of local progressive candidates and learn about exciting job and volunteer opportunities in their area. And of course, everyone receives their own copy of DFA's 180-page Campaign Training Manual.
I'm going to be there, also. Join us!

(If you can't come but just want to support the organization and the great things it's doing, you can contribute here.)
