Are We Rich and Uncaring?

By Larry James
May 31, 2009

You trample on the poor, and take advantage of him in your markets... as a result, you are rich and uncaring....

You oppress the poor as a part of your overall plan... you regularly receive bribe money and you rob the poor of justice in the courts in the name of "law and order"... because of your ways with those who are poor, you and your nation will suffer horribly....

Now understand this, God hates your Sunday worship services... God is sickened by your displays of religious fervor and piety... God detests all of your gifts and offerings and plans to give to further serve only yourself....

God will not hear the silly sounds of your music and song in view of the terrible cries of the poor suffering outside your fine sanctuaries... God refuses to listen to your beautiful music because of what you have done to chain the poor....

Here's the "order of service" God desires from you: justice that rolls like a mighty river and right practice on the streets, in your courthouses and state houses and White House that results in a sacrifice of relief and hope for the poor who are God's true people.

[Interpretative thoughts drawn from Amos 5:11-24]

Larry,

This interpretation, is the epitome of how I view God. Unfortunately, in my life, I have met few, if any, who without abandonment at some level share this sentiment. This is but one perfect example of what, religion, if I believed in religion, would mean to me.
While I do respect all views, I have no authority to call any person down for their faith or their lack of.
I do believe, GOD represents in many ways, Gift Of Discovery. Through that gift, may we all discover (in due time), how our heart and mind should be translated to our faith through action.
I am deeply saddened, while this passage, I think is how all beings should strive to achieve the meaning in their own life; I hesitate to submit myself to the many, or even one version of God's true outcome desire for his children. For me, the truth does not reflect reality in any respect. What I feel in my heart, brings tears to my eyes, as one may only fantasize that God's creation could even begin to mirror his true intent, as I see Him.
Thank you for sharing; I wish all would commit to internalizing this one single message.
