A Reprise: Sean Tevis and Option 4

By Levi Henry
May 8, 2009

If you were in a coma this week, this will be news to you. Sean Tevis, the Kansas information architect-turned allstar 2008 state legislative House candidate has decided to take another stab at the Kansas House in 2010 via comic book stick figures. While not widely reported by the traditional Kansas media, blogs across the nation have taken this with furor, with the Daily Kos even calling him the "coolest candidate running for state legislature anywhere." That's impressive stuff.

This is not the first time I've written about Mr. Tevis. As you'll remember, in March the Republican "asshats" in the Kansas Legislature thought it would be a good idea to prevent another Sean Tevis, or Sean Tevis himself, from trying to raise funds off of stick figure cartoons or, more specifically, unitemized internet contributions, which in the aggregate, total over $5,000.00. Obviously, that "asshat" attempt at regulating unitemized internet contributions failed, because Mr. Tevis is back for his reprise.

Starting earlier than he did in 2008, having much more name recognition, and, as his new "Option 4" strip illustrates, knowing what worked and didn't in the last election will give Mr. Tevis a stronger position in 2010 for the Kansas House.

And FYI: If you donate a mere $13.37 (seriously, that may be the least amount a candidate will ever ask from you!), you can get your name on a shirt that will be given to an elected under Topeka's Green Dome. For $40? You get to put an entire 140-character Tweet on the shirt (follow Sean at @stevis)! I personally applaud Mr. Tevis for his small contribution approach to Kansas politics: it's time normal people not bought and paid for by the Kansas Chamber of Commerce come to the Kansas Legislature.
