Join the impact

By Carter Maddox
November 12, 2008

One of the most frustrating things about the No on Proposition 8 campaign was that it was a pretty top-down, disciplined campaign -- not a lot of room for the grassroots to articulate their own messages or to channel their own energy. Now that Prop 8 has passed (effectively banning already-legalized same-sex marriages), there have been a few responses.

The No on Prop 8 campaign has already joined up with several other groups to bring legal action against the proposition. Word is that some kind of response could be handed down from the courts as early as next week.

The grassroots have also joined in the fight and have taken to the streets. There have been protests all over California (Los Angeles, Sacramento, and San Francisco, among others) and beyond (even in Salt Lake City, headquarters for the Mormon church while bankrolled the Yes on Prop 8 campaign) for the past week.

The nation is also watching. Join the Impact started off as two people having a conversation, and has grown into a national day of protest, with gatherings happening in 49 states, including over 80 cities.

Join in on Saturday if you can!
