Why I Support Obama

By Bill Smith
October 9, 2008

Dear Everyday Citizen Readers,

I am a U.S. Army Veteran who served during Operation Desert Shield and Storm during the 1991 Persian Gulf War. I received the Bronze Star as a result of my service during that time. I truly respect all service members who volunteer to serve in harms way to up hold the dignity and values of the United States of America. I also have a deep respect for Senator McCain who sacrificed years of his life as a Prisoner of War during the Vietnam War however that experience alone does not qualify him to be Commander In Chief. Nor would I feel confident serving under his leadership if he were to be elected President.

Although John McCain says he supports the troops his action reflect otherwise. He opposed legislation to modernize the GI Bill, he has opposed legislation to fund troops in harms way because of time-lines being included in bills, and his plan for the war in Iraq is more of the same failed policies of the last eight years which will also increase our national debt to the point of no return.

Barack Obama has a plan for Veterans and for bringing an end to the war in Iraq. He supports our military and their families, he spoke out in favor of the GI Bill for the Twenty-first Century, and he is committed to providing our wounded troops with the best care possible.

It is because of Barack Obama's charisma and ability to inspire a renewed sense of patriotism and hope that I support his Presidential campaign.

Respectfully,

William E. Smith

Inspired?? You're kidding right? How about aspired to show the greed, corruption and division that you seem to be turning a blind eye to. How he could even be in the same room with a person that tramples our flag is beyond me. BO has been known as the colored JFK in rhetoric but can't will never come close to filling his shoes. And the thought of BO thinking he knows best for you and I and has never filled out a uniform of the military is a joke. McCain will NEVER forget his own, I know, I've met the man personally.

1991 ODS is a lot different that today's OIF, I've done two tours, I've seen things that you will never see and it's that reason I can't nor will I endorse a person of such radical ideals.

We're bound by our duty Smith but our missions are very different. Glad you came back home.
