Jim Slattery: A New Voice for Kansans

By Denise Cassells
September 7, 2008

After hearing several speeches in the past few months given by candidate for US Senate from Kansas Jim Slattery, today was the clincher, you know the one that gives you goosebumps when a candidate says just the right phrase, or uses just the proper tone that sets the stage for what type of campaign to expect from the person you would like to see take over a certain seat in our government?

Without the slightest hesitation, I heard Slattery nail GOP incumbent Pat Roberts on one very important aspect that up until today I had not heard.

Spending a night in Wichita, then attending caucuses all day I wondered if Slattery would take on a different tone, after having his first of only three debates with Roberts that was held at the AT&T Arena on the fairgrounds in Hutchinson prior to Slattery making his speaking engagement in Wichita in front of mostly familiar faces and yes, even friends.

When he took the podium, I immediately sensed a different air about Slattery, a hint of assurance, and even a reassured look, the look common among those in high places that give them the confidence to take on a role of authority and leadership.

There was no wavering second in his speech that brought his fans to their feet, wanting to hear more. Slattery was frank and to the point today, he brought me to the knowledge, that yes, this man really does deserve a platform and has some things to say about a 40 year incumbent, that should have long ago been said.

Slattery is the one that I, and that many have been waiting for, in our state to take on the man who held the charge of oversight in the senate intelligence committee before our current administration led us into a war in Iraq by intentionally misleading, lying, cajoling, or whatever misinformation they could dream up to pump up the "We are American" attitude by selling false information to not only the American people, but many in congress.

And it worked. It worked because some in the senate were not doing their job. Namely Pat Roberts. When things began to take on a damning effect, and most, not all Americans, and that includes the Congress, Senate, and the mainstream media began to discover the truth, by reading, listening, not believing the lies and cover-ups of those responsible, whose job was it to investigate the truth and hold some feet to the fire by looking at the real evidence for this war?

Well, Roberts failed, and by failing to perform his sworn duties, he became more cherished and more beloved by his party. People were duped, and Roberts allowed the blood to flow. Harsh words? Well, in this case it seems harsh words are needed, and the American people deserve to hear the truth. Some just blatantly refuse to believe the truth. They have this image of a man who has been their state senator for nearly 40 years, and I suppose that should be all some ever need. That topic is only one of so many wrongs committed by Roberts. It is time to start spending some of your hard earned cash Mr. Roberts, because Kansas has a new leader, and I really don't think he is messing around.

Slattery is telling the truths about Roberts' hideous voting record. Roberts has gone unchallenged for way too long, and his dismal record has to be brought into the light. I believe that Jim Slattery is just the kind of leader this state has been waiting for.
