Three hundred bloggers in a big tent

By Dawne Leiker
August 25, 2008

Convention Day One:

From inside the tent, all that can be heard is the steady chatter of bloggers connecting with their bloggees. What are they all writing? I want to stand over their shoulders and check out their innermost thoughts on the convention or whatever they’re writing about.

Traditional media members are here, too. Videotaping, photographing and interviewing bloggers..... while the bloggers blog about traditional media. The hunter has become the hunted.

There are sofas available here for bloggers that don’t want to leave the comforts of home. Tables are lined up for more focused and deadline-driven bloggers.

The tent isn’t really what I envisioned. I imagined something more Ali Baba-ish. The actual tent is a little closer to a livestock pavilion. (The smells are great, though...I think it’s Chipotle’s)

I got a chance to visit with Kansas delegates this morning at the Double Tree Hotel. It’s a huge week for them. Len Schamber of Damar, admitted to feeling some “butterflies” as the convention gets underway. Making all the connections and attending the caucuses, finding the right rail down to the convention center.....There’s lots for the delegates to think about.

There’s a lot for me to think about, too. So many faces, so much noise. Such great smells...I’m going to follow that scent of Chipotle’s right now!
