Hey Kansas! Remember to Vote on August 5th!

By Henry Schwaller
August 1, 2008

With the Kansas Secretary of State predicting an abysmal voter turnout next week, I want to remind fellow Kansans that it's time to vote.

We're pretty excited about the primary in Ellis County, as there are a number of contested local races. One campaign in particular has really gotten peoples' attention - the race for County Clerk.

According to the Kansas Secretary of State - which receives its information from the Ellis County Clerk - our incumbent County Clerk failed to vote in 4 of the last 9 primary elections. In other words, even though she is the chief election officer for our County and gets paid by Ellis County taxpayers to be in her office every day, she either:

  • couldn't figure out her own convoluted voting system;
  • didn't think it was important to vote or
  • maintains voting records so poorly

that she was AWOL more than 40 percent of the time. Luckily, she has a challenger in the primary. And if elected, maybe Dottie Staab will make it easier for Mrs. Klaus to find her polling place for the next election.

Please remind your friends that election day is next Tuesday.
