Reporting Live from Netroots Nation 2008

By Sarah Burris
July 17, 2008

The rest of this week I'm joining 2000+ of my fellow bloggers, political workers, and technology addicts in Austin, Texas, at the annual Netroots Nation conference. As a Democracy for America Scholarship winner I was given the ultimate gift of a free ticket to the conference, free hotel room (shared with the unbelievable blogger BlueGirlRedState) and was graciously given a free airline ticket by kind soul/donor Denise.

First let me say that this is my first Netroots Nation. So, a majority of my time has been being star struck and wide eyed. I'm one of those people who really isn't that impressed by too many politicians anymore, so seeing them doesn't make me crazy like it did several years ago. But bloggers... now there's the cool kids. For example, Chris Bowers... I'll admit that I embarrassed my friends significantly yesterday when I Twittered about seeing Chris Bowers in our hotel lobby. Its a whole new level of being a nerd.

Let me introduce you to Kevin Bondelli. A good friend and fellow Future Majority Blogger, Kevin spends a lot of time bothering people, causing trouble, and talking about technology as well as the youth vote. I've known Kevin for over a year, never seen him in person, and never heard his voice until yesterday.

Kevin and I spent several hours sitting in our hotel lobby with laptops watching passers-by and deciding which "caucus" they fit into. At NN there are meetings with folks from like minded caucuses. Such caucuses included, the naked caucus, the bearded caucus, the trouble-makers caucus, the really old caucus, The Mike Connery Caucus, the beer caucus, and the caucus caucus ... for people that like caucuses. Right now I'm in the non-caucus caucus ... at the coffee shop in our hotel blogging.

Kevin isn't the only person that I'm finally meeting in person. There are tons of people that are here and even more that I met briefly while at some of the early caucus/primary states but haven't seen since earlier this year.

I'll be covering events as they unfold and will have a great set of interviews over at Rock the Vote that I will repost here as well.

Right now, if you'd like to follow my every step you can do so on my Twitter Page and you can follow those tweeting with the NN tag here. I find them hilarious.

I'm excited to bring you more as it becomes available!
