Update: Feminist Rant from an Anti-Feminist

By Sophie Milam
June 12, 2008

When I wrote on Monday that the media had failed to examine the sexist coverage of Hillary Clinton's presidential bid, I was remiss not to mention the effort that Katie Couric has made to bring attention to this issue in her role as anchor of CBS Evening News. Couric continued those efforts tonight in her Reporter's Notebook.

Hi, I've come this way via a google search, and am unfamiliar with your blog, but I did read this post. While I can understand your concerns over the way women are portrayed in the media, I suggest you consider this: How many positive main characters that are male do you see? How about men looking positive in ads? Sure there's a few, but what about the ratio?

We live in an age where men have little "social capital", and this has been deliberately brought about by various anti-male groups, nearly all of which share the feminist ideology. And while I accept that there may be some areas in which women would like more success (most CEO's are male for example), they seem to refuse to accept any of the "risk" side of the equation (most garbagemen are male too).

Consider:

Men have no reproductive rights. Indeed, we have actually been officially declared as having no parental rights either.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/12/28/london/main3654660.shtml#ccmm

Which is also, demonstrably, a worldwide problem.

In nearly every instance, feminists demand equality of outcome (50% CEO's or affirmative action needs expansion), and promotion of the option to increase participation (programs to encourage women to enter construction for example) - yet in child custody and divorce circles, feminists are just fine with 90+% defacto sole custody cases in women's favour. The argument of men not "wanting" to be fathers is irrelevant IF you apply equality of outcome standards here too....which is why they don't.

There is no shortage of massive social issues like this, no shortage of game-changing shifts that have dramatically affected the lives of men. And while feminists rail angrily at the failure of women to rise to the challenge, blaming men...er, excuse me, The Patriarchy (tm) the whole time, they totally ignore massive social injustice...ENTIRELY on the basis that it's not affecting them badly, so why should they care?

THEN these same people have the gall to say that to not support feminism is to not support equality!

True, there have been recent attempts to whitewash feminism, to fracture it into so many "sects" as to make "blaming" more difficult. There have also been attempts to co-opt the men's rights movement's concerns into the PHMT argument, which is simply another way of telling men that it's not WOMEN doing these things, it's men....pay no attention to the pump-clad feet behind the curtain.

An absurd amount of logical twisting is coming from feminist circles these days, but it's not going to work as long as people are willing to outright confront feminism. It's only been able to survive through policing of "acceptable" speech...in other words, totalitarian thought-control policies.

The internet has made that impossible, and men are starting to group together again (although shutting down all the "men only" clubs was very effective for quite a while).

While I applaud your social consciousness, I find your focus a tad ...er....sexist.
