A Poem For John McCain and the Ladies Who Love him...
Oh how he woos us!
the ney-ney-ney of his lips,
thinning
And what ears he has! for listening!
pressed against the walls
of our house, leaning
What eyes and what teeth!
What very large teeth he has...
And oh how he bids us
to bed us in trenches—
“Come ‘win’ with me the world
of ‘was’ and ‘has been’
and I will make you the queen
of sleep”
Promises, promises!
“kiss my ashy lips, taste the metal in my mouth”
“bring me your angry cup
and I will fill it”

Thank you for sharing your poem with us Melissa. I'm not sure who the ladies are that are attracted to McCain's promises, but I'm thankful that I am not one. I love the sensuality of your words and visuals your poem brings to mind. If I ever find myself getting pulled in McCain's direction, I might literally run at full speed in the other direction to avoid those thin lips and big teeth and the stupor of the past! Yikes! What wonderful words and imagery! Thank you so much for sharing poetry with us.
