"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand." - Randy PauschHow have you handled the cards that you've been dealt?
My DREAMERS aka D.R.E.A.M Act activists have not only been hopeful, they've also been active. But how does a group continue to fight for the right to "DREAM", when groups and people filled with hate and animosity want to see you in shackles, torn apart from your family before the sun comes up, and have LIFE as you know it riped away.
How do you fight for the right to D.R.E.A.M. without being punished?
D.R.E.A.M. Act activism in the nation has dropped tremendously. Don't think that those who believe in it have stopped believing, or that D.R.E.A.M. Act beneficiaries have LEFT the country. They are still living their daily lives, they are still hoping and they are still dreaming. But current politics have placed this issue on the back burner. Anytime the topic of "immigration" is spoken or written about, people tend to yell, "send them back" without listening or caring about who they hurt.
The cruel reality is that these kids have no where to go. They've been born in a foreign country and raised in a country that refuses to accept their contributions. These kids have NO CHOICE.
They speak English, eat hamburgers, drive cars, many aspire to go to college, many aspire to join the military, and they look like any other US born kid. They aren't GREEN or speak "broken" English.
They look like you and me, but they aren't treated like you and me.
Whether you believe that they have a right to attend college or not, the reality is that they are here. Should we close the doors and force them to place their dreams and aspirations on the back burner? Should they go back to "their country of origin?" And if they do go "back" what or to who do they go back to?
