In an unprecedented move, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) will embed correspondents from 55 blogs with conventions delegates during the upcoming historic four-day event in Denver, providing even greater access for coverage and perspective. More than 2,000 applications were received from blogs across the U.S. and multiple territories. This site is honored to be among the 55 blogs chosen to be embedded with the state delegations!
For Immediate ReleaseDNC Chairman Governor Dean Selects Kansas Blog For Democratic National Convention 'State Blogger Corps'
May 16, 2008
EverydayCitizen.com is recognized by Democratic National Committee as the official Kansas Blog to cover the National Convention in Denver this August
HAYS, KS – EverydayCitizen.com, a national group blog headquartered in Hays, Kansas, has been selected by the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) as the only Kansas blog to receive unprecedented press privileges and access at the Democratic convention in Denver this August.
EverydayCitizen.com’s editor and publisher, Pam Pohly, says, “This is a great honor for all of our authors and journalists at EverydayCitizen.com. We look forward to attending the convention, representing Kansas, and providing interesting coverage for all of our Kansan readers.”
As part of the DNCC's commitment to engaging a broad spectrum of audiences in the 2008 Democratic National Convention experience using new technology and other creative means, Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Howard Dean today announced the blogs selected to participate in the State Blogger Corps during the four-day event in August.
"Similar to the record-breaking voter turnout our Party has seen during the primary season, the demand for these coveted blogger positions is yet another indicator of the tremendous interest in this historic Convention," said Governor Dean. "The Internet has played a critical role in connecting Americans to elected officials and candidates seeking office. The DemConvention State Blogger Corps will continue to foster this dialogue - in all 50 of our states and our territories too - as we head towards this year's historic election and elect a Democrat to the White House."
The DNCC previously announced an expansion of the credentialed blogger pool from past Conventions and the addition of a state blogger credentialing program. As part of the new DemConvention State Blogger Corps, designed for bloggers covering state and local politics, bloggers will receive unparalleled access to state delegations and the floor of the Convention hall.
In a truly unprecedented move, the DNCC will seat these bloggers with their respective delegations during the historic four-day event, providing even greater access for local coverage and perspective.
Pohly designed and developed EverydayCitizen.com in 2007 in order to provide a greater voice for ordinary citizens. “These are such important times. Everyday people want to examine the important issues and conditions facing our nation and our world. The people who write for EverydayCitizen.com all care deeply about the social, economic, environmental and human conditions and are compelled to engage in discussions about these things they care so much about. Our blog offers opportunities for our authors and readers to engage, motivate, or stimulate interaction of ideas and thoughts across gender, generational, and ethnic lines.”
"The members of the DemConvention State Blogger Corps represent a broad spectrum of voices that illustrate the 'big tent' nature of our Party," said DNCC CEO Leah D. Daughtry.
"Many of these blogs are vibrant communities, well respected in their home states and committed to ensuring that all voices can be heard in the political process. I'm excited about the roles these bloggers will have in engaging an even broader, more diverse base of people from around the country in conversations not only about the Convention, but about the future of our nation."
More than 400 applications were received from bloggers across the United States and multiple territories for the state blogger corps and over 2,000 for the general blogger credentialing and multiple territories. In all, about 120 were selected for the general corps and 55 were chosen for the state corps.
EverydayCitizen.com is the only blog from Kansas that will receive these credentials. Furthermore, EverydayCitizen will have unprecedented access since it is the only blog or media organization that will be embedded with the delegates.
Some of the blogs selected for the State Corps are full-time, professional endeavors while others are the work of individuals, who through their own efforts have become recognized authorities on state and local politics. Blogs had to submit daily audience information and provide examples of posts that made their blogs stand out as an effective online organizing tool or agent of change, a demonstration of both the reach and impact blogs have had and will continue to have on the 2008 election.
EverydayCitizen.com, while only a year old, already receives over 700 visits an hour and has had as many as 3,500 viewers/visitors in one hour. Altogether, over 65 reporters and authors are credentialed to write at EverydayCitizen.com
“We are extremely proud of the work we do at EverydayCitizen.com and are all thrilled and honored to be selected to provide Kansas specific coverage at the national convention," Pohly adds. "This will be a historically significant and extremely important convention to write about. Being embedded with the Kansas delegation on the convention floor will offer us unique opportunities to give our readers up close and personal stories.”

Woo Hoo! I'm so thrilled for our humble but totally excellent site. We've worked hard to get this recognition - but especially you Pam - I know how many hours you spend everyday giving all of us support and encouragement - and to say nothing of all the tutorials and help you've had to give us! Plus those two software meltdowns! You steadily saw us through that even though I know it took you away from your real work for weeks. We are proud to have you lead us. Will you be the one that's embedded with the delegates mostly? That's so cool.

Pam - congratulations. You are so deserving of this honor. I agree with Nora - you've worked so hard at making this site interesting and professional. You've always been there for me when I've needed help with my blog posts. AND MAN HAVE I NEEDED HELP! Last year you told me about all the hours you spend building traffic for our site. Well, now. It's paid off. We're on the map. You guided us well. We owe you a debt of gratitude. Congratulations!!!! We're proud of ourselves and you and our site!!!!
Simone
PS. I guess it's too late for me to put in for one of those general corps passes? (just kidding... I know you've already submitted the names!) :o)

Yes, you've put a lot of work into this site for us!!! I remember last December when the site crashed and you had to lose sleep for a week redesigning the software and republishing the whole database. You were so nice about it too. You grumbled a little but that is about all. You do all this for us so that we can have our voices heard. I don't think we thank you very often. So thank you. I'm proud and happy for us all.

Pam - when you get the General Blogger Corps passes too - don't forget to announce it here. Also - let us know who the team of correspondents will be. I'm dying of curiosity (and excitement) for everybody even though I didn't sign up to cover the convention myself.

Knowing you, Pamela, you'll be generous and share the Floor pass with others so I hope you and your team get all the General passes you asked for. That way, you guys won't be falling all over each other and you will be able to have widespread access to the Convention.
The Pepsi Center is huge and you'll need every one of those passes in order to adequately cover the caucuses, meetings, etc that all go on simultaneously.
You're the best woman for the job on the floor, though. Pretty exciting - not only will you and your team be able to provide coverage from the floor that goes beyond repackaging the speeches - you and your blog team will be on hand to cover various other delegations (not just Kansas) and other parts of the convention like the platform discussions and grassroots programs that are of interest to local activists, but that CNN and network news coverage would never touch.
Pamela, you deserve this opportunity and we deserve the benefit of your perspective and insights. Can't wait to read what you write.

When will you find out about the ten passes that you requested? No, I'm not trying to ask for one because I know that you already put the list of names together. I'm just eager to find out. I bet the people who have asked for passes are eager to find out too. SO EXCITING!

For those of you that are asking, unless somebody drops out or can't go to the convention, then if (when) we get the 10 general pool passes, all 10 of the passes are already taken. Remember, a couple of weeks ago I sent out a request and asked interested contributors to submit their name to me if they wanted to cover the convention? Ten people committed to go - so those are the 10 names that I turned in last week to the General Blogger Pool on clearance forms. Those are the passes that are being deliberated and approved right now.
I'm expecting that we'll hear that all 10 passes/names are approved within a couple of weeks, perhaps by the end of May.
Then our team is off to Denver in August!

Thanks Angelo for your kind words, but you guys need to stop giving me accolades and start giving them to each other - and to yourselves.
Sure I do the background work (somebody's gotta do it) in keeping the site running and keeping you guys motivated - but you guys are the ones doing the phenomenal reporting, creative thinking, and soul-searching. You are the brave and committed change agents. You guys are the ones that bring the passion and drive to "save the world" while getting down into examining and evaluating the nitty gritty details of politicians, policies and programs. We have a great group - and we are greater than the sum of our parts! ;-)

As we await decision from the Democratic National Convention Committe about how many of our Everyday Citizen's eclectic and nationalll diverse and disparate blogger group will have "General Blogger Corps" passes at the August Convention, here's some places to turn for more clarification about blogger access at the convention.
Check out Aaron Myers' post at DailyKos:

Here's the complete DemConvention State Blogger Corps list. Remember, though, that the General Blogger Corps will include many more blogs and that list has not yet been announced.
