Dropping like Flies

By Ally Klimkoski
May 19, 2008

Another Kansas Republican has defected to the Democratic Party. Today Lisa Benlon a former Republican Representative in Kansas has announced she is filing for the State House seat being vacated by Rep. Sue Storm who is running for State School Board.

This is another in a long line of Republicans in Kansas who are defecting to the Democrats who continue to point out their big tent coalition. Last year the Kansas Republican Party mandated that their elected officials sign a Loyalty Oath guaranteeing that they would not leave the party.

“I am running again for the Kansas House because our state is at a critical juncture,” Benlon said. “Education, access to healthcare and economic development was important to me during my time in Topeka and they remain my priorities today. After being urged to run by Sue and talking to voters in the district, I would be honored to once again serve in the Kansas Legislature.”

This includes a long line of Republicans that began with John Moore then in 2004 Nancy Boyda, and includes other successful candidates like Mark Parkinson, Paul Morrison, Cindy Neighbor, Rick Guinn (does he count?), and there ... are ... more...

According to BTR,

"Even if it had any chance of success, it would still be too little, way too late. In the last year, Kansas Republicans have shed more than a dozen high profile and once-promising pachyderms, as well as countless voters."

There is still hope for you Jerry Moran!!! We would accept you with open arms!
