KS-02: What is Lynn Hiding From Now?

By Ally Klimkoski
April 11, 2008

Kansas State Treasurer and Republican candidate for Congress Lynn Jenkins (CPA) has spent the last several months trying to make her American Century scandal go away... and with good reason. That's some pretty sketchy hijinks if you ask me.

In her op-ed to the Kansas City Star, Jenkins CPA wrote (I would link but archived articles at the star older than a week old must be purchased for $2.95 proving once and for all that the Star is all about money ... not so much about news... but I digress)

“Research conducted by American Century found that my presence in the ads reminds Kansans of my role in the program and brings credibility, attention and reassurance to Kansans considering opening a new account or making a year-end contribution.”

Jenkins only evidence that this wasn't a "back scratching" deal was a slide from a powerpoint presentation. (click for larger view). Even Jim Ryun's campaign calls this questionable.

According to the FEC

"The Federal Election Commission (FEC) regulations define an electioneering communication as: “Any broadcast, cable, or satellite communication that (1) refers to a clearly identified candidate for Federal office; (2) is publicly distributed within 60 days before a general election or 30 days before a primary election for the office sought by the candidate referenced in the communication; and (3) in the case of a Congressional candidate, is targeted to the relevant electorate.”

Or, you can read here about Electioneering Communications

I'm sure someone has filed an inquiry with the FEC and there is or will be an investigation, for now however... the plot thickens...

Now Lynn Jenkins' croonies are saying that her public events should not be available to the public.

“Nancy Boyda’s presence was also felt at the luncheon in the form of one of her campaign workers who did not speak but videotaped the event.
“He follows me everywhere I go,” Jenkins said.
“You’ve got your own stalker,” one of the guests said with a laugh." They quote from the KC Community News
Why is Jenkins so scared? What is she trying to hide from Kansans now?
