A Clean Conscience

By Henry Schwaller
April 16, 2008

I think unfortunately, a lot of countries say, 'Well, if we say that we are not going to the opening ceremonies, we checked the box on Tibet.' That's a cop-out. If other countries are concerned about Tibet, they ought to do what we are doing, through quiet diplomacy. (U.S. National Security Adviser, Stephen Hadley, Fox News, Sunday)
Mr. Hadley, I'd like you to meet Neville Chamberlain. It sounds like you two might have something in common.

Germany just wanted peace. And a strong defense. And a pure nation. And an empire that would last a thousand years. China's desires are a little less obvious - excepting its demands regarding Tibet and Taiwan.

Boycotting the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games may be a weak gesture. But it would be the first gesture the Bush Administration has ever made towards China's aggression.
