I think unfortunately, a lot of countries say, 'Well, if we say that we are not going to the opening ceremonies, we checked the box on Tibet.' That's a cop-out. Germany just wanted peace. And a strong defense. And a pure nation. And an empire that would last a thousand years. China's desires are a little less obvious - excepting its demands regarding Tibet and Taiwan.
Boycotting the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games may be a weak gesture. But it would be the first gesture the Bush Administration has ever made towards China's aggression.
