Right Now in 2008

By Ally Klimkoski
March 26, 2008

A new fun viral video takes the Kansas GOP and national republicans to task for some of the failures we are seeing and urges folks to register to vote.

The video addresses several issues that are facing Kansans at the state and federal level.

"Conservative Republicans are playing politics by cutting funding for all of Kansas' veterans programs, several popular childcare programs like all day kindergarten and successful programs like Meals on Wheels for elderly Kansans. Why would they do this? Either they will introduce them back into the budget one at a time so they can accuse Democrats of voting for "reckless spending," or they won't – and Kansans will be left to face the consequences." (According to the Hays Daily News 3-20-08)
As for children's health insurance...

""HealthWave is a proven program," said Chairwoman Susan Wagle, R-Wichita. "We know it's working, so we expanded it for all children." CJOnline

This of course comes only after Sen. Susan Wagle shook her finger at the Governor for children's health care

"What's her plan, other than more socialized medicine?" asked Sen. Susan Wagle, R-Wichita, chairwoman of her chamber's Health Care Strategies Committee. "Her plan is more handouts." March 20, 2007

Oh how quickly things change... Does this mean that Wagle is a socialist now?? I'm confused...

Evidently the health care that Kansas Governor Kathleen Seblius thinks is necessary is only ok if Susan Wagle's own hot air is blowing the winds that year. Well, perhaps we shouldn't chide her for being late to the party and only embrace the fact that she showed up at all.

Old McCain keeps confusing Al Queda with Iran. Which is understandable. All them brown people look the same to republicans right? McCain has made this mistake four times thus far. It may be more, I haven't turned on CNN yet today.

And perhaps the most frightning is a recent story found in the KC Star about Phill Kline who is so preoccupied with his single issue agenda that he can't do his job effectively.

"A Johnson County judge frustrated over evidence initially withheld in the Kelsey Smith murder case scolded prosecutors on Friday.

District Judge Peter Ruddick told District Attorney Phill Kline and his deputy that they needed to step up and do better, and ensure that all evidence is disclosed to attorneys defending Edwin Hall.

The judge warned that even technical missteps can have a profound impact on the outcome of a case.

“Now come on you guys. You have a responsibility here, not only to your case but to the state of Kansas,” Ruddick said, in a tone that rose as he spoke. “And I want you to start living up to it.”

He also accused the prosecution of filing a brief that was “full of sarcasm but not substance.”

How about a little less time on causing trouble and a little more time doing your job? That'd be great, Phill, thanks.
