Authors, sign in!It's clear to me from this 1994 video that the Bush administration knew all along that an occupation of Iraq would be a disaster for us, for Iraqis and for the Middle East region.
What's not so apparent is why they invaded Iraq in 2003. Maybe Bush and Cheney moved ahead with it in 2003 because either they didn't care, they just wanted to build up their buddies' defense and oil industries - or they just were irresponsibly and zealously playing God.
Perhaps, their veins were filled with adrenalin and their impressions of their own powers made them feel heady, headstrong or handsome. Whatever their foolhardy reasons, they were in over their heads. They screwed up.
It's time for them to admit they did wrong and to allow the rest of us to change their course.
It also seems clear to me that they are willing to stay in Iraq for the same wrongheaded reasons that they got there with.
At this point, it seems that the only way to stop Bush's and Cheney's occupation of Iraq is through massive, organized public pressure.
