I have only been on everyday citizen for about 2 months and it has done one of the most amazing things for me. Through everyday citizen I have been connected with my biological dad whom I have never seen before and my dad's side of the family who I also had never met.
It all started when a cousin that I didn't know googled his last name. As you guys can see my last name is unusual. And he found my blog and sent me an email asking who I was b/c he had never met me before and that last name only belongs to one family. We emailed back and forth for a little bit and he gave me his number so I gave it to my mother. My mother talked to him and he told her that my dad was in Chicago.
Since then, I have had phone conversations with my dad and his relatives.
I have met in person my cousin Paul who googled his name and found me (Thanks Paul), my aunt, two of my uncles, and some of my cousins. My dad is flying in from Chicago to next week to meet me!
This has been an unusual experience for me. When I was younger, I used to ask questions about my dad but as I got older the questions went away and I figured that I would never know my dad and left it at that. Now there is a new twist to my life. I have met new family members who are all really sweet people and I am glad to have met them. I am looking forward to meeting the rest of the family too.
This situation has brought about mixed emotions and feelings with it though. The biggest emotion that I have now is excitement. I am happy to be going down a new road in life but at the same time I feel confused about a lot of things. I believe that everything does happen for a reason and I am going to go through this experience with an open mind.
I wonder if I not been on everyday citizen what would have happened? This is like a fairytale story to me and I wanted to share it with the people on here.

Jess, I have loved every one of your blog posts because you are so honest and passionate about your work and insightful - and clearly have a big warm heart. All of the people that read this blog are blessed with your words. NOW, your real Dad and your new family members are very blessed, too, to have someone as special as you enter their lives. Jess - how wonderful and exciting!!! I agree with what Nora has said - your new family is very fortunate indeed to have found you.
I remember awhile back you had a comment from Nicole Orogbu who said that she was your cousin but that she had never met you. I wondered about that... is that one of your new family members too? Also, about a month ago, a friend of mine from West Africa saw your name at Everyday Citizen and wondered if you were from Benin or Nigeria. I said that I figured you were born in the US. But, now, that you mention that your unusual nature of your last name, I wonder - are your Dad's ancestor's from West Africa?
Jess, I'm so happy for you. Everything will work out fine. I'm sure of it.
