Jim Faris tells us that he has been opinionated for as long as he can remember.

Born in Silvis, Illinois, but raised in Ozawkie, Kansas, Jim learned what it means to be an informed voter and citizen of the United States. In 1997 while in the 8th grade, he spent a day as a state senate page for Senator Biggs.

Ever since, Jim has tried to find ways to serve. Running in 2006 for state representative, he learned the hard way about what it means to run a political campaign by yourself with little money to spare. Jim didn't win the office, however he received 35% of the vote. Jim tells us that it was an experience of a lifetime.

In the 2008 general election, Jim won a city council seat in Oskaloosa, Kansas. Congratulations, Jim!

He's also a 10-year veteran of the road performing as a bluegrass musician with his family band, the Faris Family. Jim has won Upright Bass Performer of the Year with the Midwest Bluegrass organization of SPBGMA (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America).

Jim has worked for his local newspapers, the Oskaloosa Independent and the Valley Falls Vindicator. In addition to serving on the City Council, he also works at a paraeducator at Jefferson West Middle School in Meriden, Kansas.

He's a newlywed, too. Jim and his wife Jennifer were married November 2009. They are expecting their first child in August 2010.
